Installation

# Create the "static Web" directory and servlets dir
cd
mkdir www servlets

# Untar the skeleton of apache configuration
tar xvf /cs290i/Apache.UserConf.tar

# Edit apache/apachectl
Change the MYROOT variable

# Edit httpd.conf (search for CS290I_CHANGEME):

• Set ServerRoot to the dir of apache
  e.g.: /home/blanquer/apache
• Change the Include patch for jserv.conf
  e.g.: /home/blanquer/apache/conf/jserv.conf
• The the port to the one assigned
  e.g.: 8001 (see table!)
• Change the DocumentRoot
  e.g.:/home/blanquer/www
• Change the top-level document directory
  e.g.: /home/blanquer/www

# Edit jserv.conf (search for CS290I_CHANGEME):

• change the APJServDefaultPort to your JVM port
  e.g.: 9001

# Edit jserv.properties (search for CS290I_CHANGEME):

• change port to the assigned jserv port 
  e.g.: 9001 (see table!)
• set root.properties to the location of zone.properties
  e.g.: /home/blanquer/apache/conf/zone.properties
• set log.file to the location of jserv.log
  e.g.: /home/blanquer/apache/logs/jserv.log
• Include the Oracle classes in the classpath of the jserv engine by substituting the following line from jserv.properties:
  • wrapper.classpath=/cs290i/src/mysql-jdbc/mysql_comp.jar

  by the following two:

  • wrapper.classpath=/cs290i/src/oracle-jdbc/classes12.zip wrapper.classpath=/cs290i/src/oracle-jdbc/nls_charset12.zip

# Edit zone.properties (search for CS290I_CHANGEME):

• set repositories to the servlets directory where the classes will reside
  (there can be more than one if separated by commas)
  i.e: /home/blanquer/servlets

# Test your set-up
# Copy the examples in /cs290i/apache/servlets/ to your servlets directory (the one defined in repository)
cp /cs290i/apache/servlets/* /home/USER/servlets/

# Start the apache server
apache/apachectl start

# Check the error log
cat apache/logs/error_log

# Copy any html file into your document root. Try if static pages work.
echo "Hi MOM!" >/home/USER/www/my_file.html
point your browser at http://MACHINE:PORT/myfile.html

# Try the Hello servlet
http://MACHINE:PORT/servlets/Hello

# Try the WebMacro HelloWorld servlet
http://MACHINE:PORT/servlets/HelloWorld
